LSC drives skills development in Doncaster
The latest F1 Renault car on display in Doncaster.
The LSC has provided £500,000 of funding for a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) in Advance Automotive
Electronics operated by Doncaster, Rotherham & District Motor Trades GTA. Last week, GTA formally launched an
additional advanced training facility for Renault UK, which they have been entrusted to run.
The Renault UK Training Academy will serve as a centre of excellence for training technicians of all fields from
across the UK. The centre will also serve as a base for courses on Sales, After Sales and Management Training.
The state-of-the-art facility was opened by Renault UK Managing Director Philippe Talou-Derible, with the latest
F1 Renault car on show proving a particularly popular attraction with guests and local dignitaries alike.
The centre, developed as part of Renault's continued commitment to training and developing the highest calibre
technicians within the motor industry, will serve to develop the skills of up to 24 technicians per week.
The CoVE programmes are central to the LSC's aim to improve and develop skills for employers that are needed to
underpin business success and economic competitiveness. These programmes are focused on delivering vocational
skills that meet particular sector and industry needs through the development and delivery of high quality,
specialist training across a range of sectors.
Mike Firth, Partnership Director, Doncaster, for the LSC, commented: "We are
delighted that GTA, which is funded by the Learning and Skills Council, has been asked to run the new Renault UK
Training Academy. Such a move demonstrates massive employer engagement and supports the LSC's continuing work to
make learning accessible to all. This resource will provide highly trained and motivated employees which will be
of benefit to the local economy and to the region as a whole."
