Extending technology training to the community

The opening of a new extension, funded by the LSC and Yorkshire Forward, took place this autumn at the Technology Centre in Malton, North Yorkshire. The LSC, together with Yorkshire Forward, has provided £300,000 to support the project which is a key part of the North Yorkshire Sub-regional Action Plan and the drive to meet the needs of the engineering industry in the area. Opened by Mark Haysom, chief executive of the LSC with Lord Derwent, patron of Derwent Training Association also present to welcome dignitaries and guests, the new facility opens up opportunities for local employers, schools and the community who will benefit from having access to cutting edge equipment and safe learning facilities. New conference and meeting room facilities form part of the new extension and offer a professional environment for any business. Benefiting individuals, businesses and communities Mark Haysom said: "Opening the new technology centre is an honour. This project demonstrates how an excellent partnership can work to help the alignment of investment opportunities. It will ensure we have quality provision for employers and the local economy and the project has illustrated how public sector bodies can work together quickly and effectively to make the most of new opportunities that will benefit individuals, businesses and communities." Innovation David Sanderson, chief executive at Derwent Training, commented: "Derwent Training is renowned for its innovative training packages and its ability to produce flexible training to meet the needs of its customers. It has always sought to work in partnership with local employers to offer the best available training solutions. The new facility will be made available to local engineering companies to take the opportunity to use the advanced technology and equipment." Julie Hutton, head of strategy, North Yorkshire for Yorkshire Forward, added: "Yorkshire Forward is committed to supporting the development of a skilled workforce trained to work in disciplines that are closely aligned to the needs of businesses in the region. Yorkshire and the Humber has a long history of excellence in engineering, and the provision of additional facilities within the headquarters of the Derwent Training Association will ensure that the engineering sector continues to thrive in North Yorkshire." |
